NFL Week 7 Recap: Dallas Ran Me Over. Goedert Came Up One Catch Short.

Nori Jones recaps Monday night: Cowboys 38, Eagles 21 sank Under 43.5 (-102 FanDuel) and Dallas Goedert over 5.5 receptions (+111 DraftKings). An 0-2 night for -2.00u on the X ledger, what the read got right and wrong, and the fix.

This article introduces no new tracked selections. Any earlier selections remain with their original publication.

TL;DR: Dallas ran me over, and the receipt stays up

Cowboys 38, Eagles 21. That's 59 points. I had the Under 43.5. You can see where this is going.

Under 43.5 at -102 on FanDuel, 1u: LOSS, -1.00u. Dallas Goedert over 5.5 receptions at +111 on DraftKings, 1u: LOSS, -1.00u. He caught 5. One catch short. Cool. Love that for me.

Monday finishes 0-2-0, -2.00u, -100% ROI. That's the whole X ledger right now, because this was its first graded card. This record is my X ledger, kept separate from my site record.

I swapped cards before kickoff. That won't happen again. No deleting, no excuses, no pretending I meant to do that.

The card, the final, and the box score lines that matter

Dallas went 10-10-8-10. Philly went 7-7-7-0. The Under was dead after three quarters, when it was already 28-21. Forty-nine points with fifteen minutes left. I didn't even get a sweat.

Dak went 15 of 27 for 212 yards, three touchdowns and no picks. Javonte Williams ran 25 times for 155. As a team, Dallas ran 38 times for 204 yards. That's not a game script. That's a mugging.

On the other side, Tanner McKee went 23 of 35 for 211 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Six yards a throw, a 24.1 QBR. Goedert caught 5 of 7 targets for 48 yards. Rookie Makai Lemon caught 7 of 8 for 67. Barkley had 7 carries for 62 and a touchdown, plus 2 catches for 9.

Under 43.5: I priced one offense and forgot the other one

My read was simple. Backup QB, WR1 DeVonta Smith and WR2 Wicks out, Dallas up and running the clock. Short game, low total. Sounded great at 6:59 PM.

The Philly half mostly held. McKee was bad. But Philly still scored 21 on two rushing touchdowns and a Lemon touchdown, above its 17.7-point average.

The Dallas half fell apart. I literally wrote "wrong if Dallas hits 28+." They hit 38. They did run it 38 times, but at 5.4 yards a pop. That doesn't shorten a game. It puts up points.

That Philly defense was missing Nolan Smith and Michael Carter II and had been giving up 373 yards a game. My own toolkit sheet rated the Under a pass, and its raw total was 46.0. I played it anyway. That one's an F, and it's on me.

Goedert over 5.5 catches: right read, one catch short

With Smith and Wicks out, I figured the targets would pile up on the tight end, and a trailing Philly would check it down all night.

Half of that showed up. Goedert got 7 targets, above his 6.0 average and second on the team. Philly trailed all night.

The other half didn't. McKee threw 35 times, not the 40-plus I pictured, and the rookie Lemon ate 8 targets.

Five catches on a 5.5 line is the most annoying loss in this business. The process gets a B-. The ticket still gets an L, and the L is the only grade the book cares about.

Did I beat the closing number? Nope.

Quick version of closing line value: did I get a better price than the market had right before kickoff? If you keep beating the close, you're probably onto something. If you don't, you're probably just guessing loud.

The Under: FanDuel was still -102 at kickoff, so I didn't gain or lose a cent there. But five books had moved the total up to 44, so the market was leaning Over. Against a fair, no-vig close I was about one point of win probability on the wrong side.

Goedert: on paper, +111 against a +101 close looks like I beat it by 10 cents. That's fake. The +111 was my 6:59 PM price. DraftKings was already at +101 by the time my final card went up at 7:15. At post time I had nothing.

Bottom line: no edge on either ticket, and the results matched. The market wasn't confused. I was.

The lesson: one card, one price, checked right before I post

Here's the embarrassing part. I posted my Monday card six times before kickoff and swapped picks along the way. Only the final card is on the record, and that's the one graded here.

Every repost cost me the number. Goedert went from +111 to +101 while I was shuffling cards. So the new rule: re-capture the price right before I post, post once, and the picks don't change after that.

An Under built on one bad offense needs the other offense capped too. If my toolkit sheet and my take point opposite ways, I need a reason in writing or I pass.

My weekly toolkit backtest this morning, across 315 games, still says the closing line beats my team numbers, so I'm not leaning on its side and total edges until that changes.

Market references & reading

Too long; didn't read

TL;DR: Two losses. The card stays up.

Dallas won 38-21. My Under 43.5 at -102 lost, and Goedert finished with five catches against my Over 5.5 at +111. One unit each: 0-2, -2.00u on the recorded X card.

Dallas ran for 204 yards. I treated a run-heavy script like it automatically meant fewer points and paid for it. Goedert drew seven targets, but that didn't buy the sixth catch. Volume, efficiency and the final result are different things to check.

The saved Goedert quote was +111; it had moved to +101 before the final post. That price difference stays in the recap, not under the rug. One card per game from here, with the price and publish time checked together. This X ledger is separate from my site record and the official ATSKillers model record.
