NFL Week 6 Picks: Jaguars, Steelers and an Expensive Monday Lesson

Nori Jones reviews his NFL results and backs Jacksonville -2.5 and Pittsburgh -2.5 for Sunday, October 18. Two singles, the injury risks, and why the +1500 parlay can wait.

First, pay the bill

Josh Allen ran for 121 yards Monday. Buffalo won 37-34 in overtime. My Hail Mary still went directly into the shredder. That's a useful place to begin an NFL Week 6 picks column: with the actual receipt, before anybody starts selling redemption.

Allen scored one personal touchdown; I needed two. Dalton Kincaid finished with one reception, under 4.5. Kyren Williams caught six passes for 27 yards, clearing 25+. Two winning legs and one losing leg produce one losing ticket: -0.25u at the saved +1632 joint price. Passing touchdowns don't count toward Allen's personal touchdown leg. Kincaid's two-point conversion catch doesn't become a reception in the box score, either.

The singles book remains 2-3-0, -1.2409u on 5u risked. All five singles were already settled. The reviewed Monday ticket makes the separate parlay book 0-1-0, -0.25u. Those are separate records; a successful leg doesn't get promoted into a singles win.

The lesson is specific. Allen having an enormous rushing game didn't guarantee he would personally finish two drives. I added another scoring condition to reach the payout I wanted, then needed everything to cooperate. I'm keeping that question attached to the next ticket rather than pretending one loss has taught me a universal law of football.

Sunday's card and the model boundary

I'm taking Jacksonville -2.5 at -110 and Pittsburgh -2.5 at -115, one unit apiece. Prices were visible on FanDuel's signed-out event pages Saturday at 7:51 AM Central. These are independent Nori selections, with no wager placed and no claim that either is an official ATSKillers Pick.

I checked the current Sunday board. Its official decision windows were still awaiting their opening at my Saturday read. The retained player-research rows I also inspected belonged to earlier games. They don't get a fresh coat of paint and a Sunday label. The football case below comes from current team reporting and my own judgment; I don't have a verified fresh native Sunday projection to put a probability behind it.

Texans vs. Jaguars: Jacksonville -2.5 (-110), 1u

Sunday, October 18, 8:30 AM Central at Wembley. Jacksonville's run defense is the starting point: 63.8 rushing yards allowed per game and 2.9 per attempt through five games. Cincinnati managed 23 yards on 15 carries; Philadelphia followed with 22 on 18. That's a repeated strength, although the sample and opponents still matter.

My inference: if Houston struggles to stay ahead of the sticks, Jacksonville gets more obvious passing situations and fewer balanced drives to defend. The Jaguars also spent this week practicing in Watford after last Sunday's London game. That continuity helps my comfort with the preparation; I'm assigning it no imaginary point value.

Here's the uncomfortable part. Jacksonville put starting tackle Anton Harrison on injured reserve this week, ahead of a matchup with Houston's pass rush. Corner Montaric Brown is out, Jaylon Jones is questionable, and long snapper Ross Matiscik is out. C.J. Stroud can punish a thin secondary. Jacksonville also committed 13 accepted penalties in each of its last two games. Give away that much field position again and the defensive averages can kiss my ass.

I still prefer Jacksonville at a number below a field goal. A three-point win covers -2.5. My entry limit is the quoted -2.5 at -110 or better; I am passing a new entry at -3 or worse, or a worse price. The pass rush and penalty risk keep this at the ordinary one unit.

Steelers vs. Buccaneers: Pittsburgh -2.5 (-115), 1u

Sunday, October 18, noon Central in Tampa. Baker Mayfield is out with the thumb injury. Jalon Daniels is expected to make his third NFL start, facing a defense whose edge pair has 7.5 sacks through five games: T.J. Watt 4.5, Alex Highsmith three. Tampa Bay safety Antoine Winfield Jr. is also out.

The case is about how drives survive pressure. Pittsburgh has a plausible way to force a young quarterback into late-down decisions while Aaron Rodgers works the other side of a depleted secondary. That's my matchup read, not a fitted replacement-quarterback adjustment. Mayfield's absence is public information and already part of the price; noticing it doesn't automatically manufacture value.

Daniels deserves some respect. He threw for 189 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions in the win at Dallas. Tampa Bay's run defense ranks second, so Pittsburgh can't assume Jaylen Warren gets a free afternoon. Warren scored on an 80-yard reception and a 50-yard run last week. Lovely highlights. Building this forecast around two more explosions would be asking the cannoli to refill itself.

Pittsburgh's own injury report is the strongest objection: DK Metcalf is questionable with an illness, Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek are out, and Jalen Ramsey and Keeanu Benton are questionable. I'm accepting that uncertainty at one unit, rather than assuming every questionable player suits up. A thinner receiver group can leave Rodgers with a lot of very short answers.

Same discipline: -2.5 at -115 or better is my entry limit. At -3, a field-goal win only pushes. Further bad personnel news means pass a new entry; it doesn't void or quietly rewrite this saved Saturday selection.

What the price actually asks of us

At -110, the no-push break-even rate is 52.38%; at -115, it's 53.49%. Those are payout thresholds, not my forecasted cover probabilities. I am not publishing an EV estimate without compatible probability support. One unit risks one unit, rather than staking enough to win one. Two losses cost 2u; two wins return 1.7787u profit.

The graphic shows settlement sensitivity, not how often a three-point result will happen. Getting -2.5 matters only if the rest of the price and matchup justify the bet. The half-point isn't a souvenir you buy at any cost.

Settlement illustration: a three-point favorite win covers minus 2.5, pushes minus 3, and loses at minus 3.5; Saturday Jaguars and Steelers prices with one-unit risk.

Props and the +1500 temptation

I looked at Nico Collins over 5.5 receptions, quoted -136, and over 72.5 receiving yards at -114. His official log shows five, seven and seven catches in three stat-bearing games. The blank weeks don't become zeroes. That is a thin base for a catch probability, with current role and Jacksonville's coverage still needing care. I'm passing both rather than calling a recent average an edge.

I'm also passing on a new Same Slate parlay. I haven't verified enough qualifying extra legs and a joint price near +1500. I can make a payout bigger in ten seconds. Making the argument better takes actual evidence. Monday charged us a quarter-unit for that distinction; let's at least keep the receipt.

TL;DR: Two singles, no rescue mission

Jacksonville -2.5 (-110), 1u: the run-defense case at a sub-field-goal number. Main risks are Houston's pass rush, Jacksonville's missing personnel and penalties. Kickoff 8:30 AM Central Sunday.

Pittsburgh -2.5 (-115), 1u: pressure against a young quarterback and a weakened Tampa Bay secondary. Main risk is Pittsburgh's own injury list, especially Metcalf's illness. Kickoff noon Central Sunday.

Total new risk: 2u. These Saturday FanDuel quotes are recorded prices, not guaranteed live offers or placed wagers.
